Xcel Energy Marshall Operations Center

Minneapolis, Minnesota

At A Glance

The site design of this new facility is focused on delivering sustainable landscape solutions which focus on the surrounding site context, human health and well-being, water, vegetation, and education.

Surrounding the site are several prairie habitats, scattered stands of woods, and the Mississippi River, which acts as the key component to the Mississippi Flyway Bird Migration Corridor. To connect and enhance these existing habitats, the vegetation treatments proposed for this project include the creation of pollinator and wildlife habitats through the use of native prairie, tree, and shrub plantings. A variety of stormwater facilities are proposed for the site and all of them were purposefully placed along the public edges of the site. The facilities provide a multi-stage stormwater treatment process, which highlights the importance of stormwater in our landscape.

Thrivent’s new corporate center will be located at South Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue South in the heart of the East Town neighborhood in Minneapolis. The building will 350,000 square feet and stand eight stories tall. It will include an easily accessible branch for Thrivent Federal Credit Union, a pocket park, coffee shop, chapel and art gallery open to the public

The design featured a courtyard with planting areas specifically tailored for Syngenta to showcase their commercial planting offerings. Fortune 100 Main Entry

Minnetonka, Minnesota

Loucks works closely with a Fortune 100 company to develop a campus framework plan to exploit the hidden qualities of the site without erasing vestiges of history. The plan studies campus entries, vehicular circulation, parking, building entries, landscape, and preservation of native landscapes. Sustainable strategies are evaluated for implementation on campus to promote stewardship of natural resources and protect the environment. Building entries are studied in detail, and plans are developed to enhance the arrival experience and brand the site. Campus trails are evaluated and studied for expansion opportunities offering workers an immersive experience in the landscape. Programming of key exterior spaces studies flexibility and collaboration enhancement opportunities.

Fortune 100 Courtyard

Minnetonka, Minnesota

At A Glance

This new courtyard space was designed to capture and tell the agricultural story of this Fortune 100 Company. New seating areas with decorative paving patters, pergola structure, and landscape beds all take on the forms and geometry of our agricultural landscape. The importance of stormwater in the landscape was another aspect of the design. Stormwater runoff is captured from the roof as it spills into decorative stone basins which are then directed to this central feature. This decorative basin acts as a focal point and encourages the users to closely interact with the treatment of this critical resource.

Boston Scientific Corporate Campus

Maple Grove, Minnesota

At A Glance

Loucks has enjoyed a strong, collaborative relationship with Boston Scientific since 1991, and has been involved in more than 25 different projects on the 80-plus acres Maple Grove campus, including three major building expansions and one that is LEED Silver certified, totaling 850k SF. The Loucks team provided creative solutions to address unique challenges such as Native American burial mounds, wetland mitigation, and stormwater harvesting. Loucks managed the EAW and acted as liaison with the Department of Natural Resources and other government agencies during various permit approval processes.
